Here’s What’s New in the 2016 Toyota Prius Hybrid
When Toyota introduced the Prius in 2000, it became the car of choice for environmentally conscious drivers (not to mention fashion-forward celebrities at the time). Not everyone was impressed, though, especially with the early models’ handling and interior design. Fortunately, Toyota got the memo, and the company’s engineers have worked tirelessly to up their game and create stunning changes. The result? The 2016 Prius retains its well-deserved reputation for fuel efficiency, but the overall design is much more stylish and functional. Let’s take a peak under the hood.
Still Best in Fuel Efficiency
The Toyota Prius beats all other hybrid cars with its overall rating of 52 mpg. This is a combination of 58 mpg city driving and 53 mpg highway driving. The Prius can run solely on electric power up to 45 mph – great for city driving. The new lithium-ion battery pack is smaller and lighter than the nickel version used in older models; this improvement boosts fuel efficiency.
New Engineering Insights
Toyota modified the Prius gasoline engine so it’s quieter but retains power. The continuously variable transmission system changes speeds on a continuum rather than through fixed gears to get better fuel economy. The redesigned 2016 model offers the latest frontal-collision and pedestrian-protection systems, available as upgrades.
The interior is quieter and more stylish with soft-touch surfaces, chrome, and a colorful digital display. The sedan comfortably seats four, although you can squeeze in five. Starting at $25,035, the 2016 Prius is fun to drive, easy on the wallet, and great for the environment. Even better: hybrid repair costs are typically lower than traditional gas car repair costs.

Continual Improvement Shows in Lack of Regular Need for Toyota Repair
As an experienced Toyota auto body shop, we can attest to both the speed and durability of the models that the Japanese automaker produces.
