The Safest Cars of 2019

Berkeley Auto Body Shop Discusses This Year’s Safest Vehicles

Safety is one of the key factors most car buyers consider when making their car purchase. The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) releases its picks for the safest cars each year, based on rigorous tests on collision avoidance systems, crash performance, and other safety features.

The Top 5 Safest Cars for 2019

Kia Forte
The Kia Forte earned a 5-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) due to its enhanced collision avoidance technologies and safety feature performance. IIHS also gave Kia Forte the Top Safety Pick award for it’s the dynamic light bending feature on the car’s headlights. This makes night driving as safe as driving in the daytime.

Honda Insight
Some of Honda Insight’s safety features include lane-keeping assist, an emergency braking system, and LED headlights and tail lamps. It earned a “GOOD” rating in crashworthiness tests and for its LED headlights as well as a “SUPERIOR” rating for its Collision Mitigating Braking System.

Subaru Impreza
Although most of the Subaru models are quite safe, this model has made it to the Top Safety Pick list for several subsequent years thanks to its driver assist technology, crashworthiness, and crash prevention features. The suspension was also improved, starting with the 2018 model, which makes it easier to handle.

Toyota Camry
The Toyota Camry received “GOOD” ratings on tests such as moderate overlap, small overlap tests on both the passenger side and driver’s side, roof strength, side test, and the seat and head restraints tests. It also received a “GOOD+” rating for its LATCH’s ease of use. These factors led to the Toyota Camry earning a Top Safety Pick+ which is the highest IIHS rating.

Honda Accord
The Accord is one of the best mid-sized sedans you will come across. What makes the vehicle’s safety features stand out is the Honda Sensing® safety suite which boasts of such features as:

  • Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) system
  • Collision Mitigation Braking System (CBMS)
  • Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  • Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR)

All these are a standard feature across all the vehicle’s trim levels.
